Roll out the red carpet for the winners of the 1st Annual Gaily Show Awards! 🎉
This year I was invited by The Gaily Show’s J.P. Der Boghossian to celebrate queer television shows in 3 categories… that I made up:
- Best TV Show for Musical Theater Queers,
- Best New Show You’d Better Be Watching, and
- Bestest in Show
Watch the super cute video below for the full conversation with J.P. or scroll down a little bit to just see what my 3 favorite queer shows were in 2024!
Best TV Show for Musical Theater Queers: Agatha All Along
Listen, I went to a musical theater high school so I am – deep down – still a theater kid. You may not ever hear me singing on the radio but I I assure you that every morning shower doubles as a Tiny Desk Concert. Tiny Bath Concert? Could we make that a thing?
In any event, Agatha All Along was the musical television show that had me singing and streaming all Autumn long. The show follows a coven of witches who are all seeking to overcome a past trauma in order reclaim their power. Two of the lead women characters have a simmering chemistry and the openly gay character played by Joe Locke is a refreshing representation of a younger gay man. Plus there’s singing!

Best Show You’d Better Be Watching: English Teacher
This show caught me by surprise! I best know series creator Brian Jordan Alvarez as 1) the creator of The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo, 2) Jack’s love interest on Will & Grace, and 3) a famous guy who kept showing up in my friends’ Instagram stories.
Now he’s back with a show on FX called English Teacher. You can think of it as an R-rated, queer led, Abbott Elementary.
What I enjoy most about this show is that the main character is very out, very queer, and very much othered for reasons that have little to do with his outness and his queerness. It’s a thoughtful show with a lot of jokes and definitely one that you should be watching!

Bestest In Show: Interview with the Vampire
A lot of the time our queer community rallies behind the idea that studios need to produce a well written, well crafted, well acted queer story. Well, Interview with the Vampire is all of that and more!
In Interview with the Vampire we get to witness a queer love triangle that takes place over centuries. There’s abuse, heartbreak, betrayal, joy, triumph, and an incredible depiction of love across time and experience. It is not only the best queer show of 2024 but possibly one of the best shows on television.
