Gay Homeowner: We Bought a Fixer-Upper

One year after getting married and three months after getting a dog, we all moved from a renovated condo into a single family home. Because my husband and I are always looking to get the most bang for our buck (and because the market at the time was shank or be shanked), we ended up buying a fixer-upper in a great neighborhood for a reasonable price.

Now we’re on a mission to bring our home up to a standard that makes us both happy, with an eye towards sustainability, affordability, and comfort.

After we got started on this journey, it quickly became apparent that there aren’t a lot of resources available that are tailored to families like ours. So – to help with that – I’m documenting as much of our progress as I can and being candid about what things cost and how they’re being paid for. You can use the list of projects below to keep track of what we’re doing and hopefully use the information to inform your own housing decisions!

The items on this list will link to articles as I’m able to complete them! Please bear with me as we’re just getting started.
